The Radio Amateur Association of Greece (RAAG) will activate the special call sign "SX100A" by participating in the celebration for the 100 years from the first day in which the Historic Battleship "Georgios Averof" joined the "Hellenic Navy".
The operation will take place from the Radio Room of "Georgios Averof" from Friday 2nd December 00:00 till Sunday 4th December 24:00, 2011.

Great TEP conditions on 6m and 4m band

70mhz TEP qso with ZS6WAB on ISCAT mode

After our last qso on 4m band with ZS6WAB via TEP on march Willem copied also yesterday around 18:00Z on 70.200 ssb calling CQ CQ with rst 44.My 70w output was not enough this time so he did not copied my signal on ssb.We completed ISCAT qso with fb copy -6db.Next time we will try on 2m band.

Summer is over for SV2DCD

Almost one week after my vacations i must say now that it is over....
Lot of work was waiting for me after 8 days vacations in Zakynthos island as always.The foto is taken from cape Keri in the south west part of the island.
This time there was no ham meeting in the island like every year.Anyway i had eyeball qso for a couple of minutes with my friends SV8RV Denis,SV8AXZ Takis and SV8CS Spiros who won the 2011 6m marathon.
Also qso on 70cm local qrg with SV8RX George and SV8YM Tasos
Tasos had once again in his great laboratory my YAESU FT-847 and made a great job on it after a problem caused by continuous PTT

 It is very impressive to know that the final RF transistors are ok after you see this damage !! I must say that the shack was full of smoke after this fire on the filters and the relays.Well done YAESU on the RF transistors hihi
 Now is time for some work on the antenna farm.The CQWW SSB contest is coming.I have to put a 2el delta loop for 80m band and also to repair some of the beverage antennas.Anyone for help ??? hihi

Aim of the contest:      To contact members of the Greek Telegraphy Club (G.T.C.) in CW mode and to promote

                                         CW mode to the Radio Amateur community

Contest Period:             Saturday, 24 September 2011 - 12:00UTC until Sunday, 25 September 2011 - 12:00UTC

Modulation:                   Exclusively CW (A1A)

                                               B. SOAB/QRP (Single Operator, All Bands, power output to the antenna input

                                                    limited to 5W PEP). Stations participating in this category are obliged to send

                                                    /QRP after their callsign (e.g. SV5DKL/QRP)

RST:             G.T.C. Members: RST + GTC + 3-digit member number (e.g. for G.T.C. member nr. 28 the sent  

                                                     report should be 599 GTC 028)

                      Non-members : RST + Serial No. staring from 001

Who to work: Everyone may work everyone, but just once per each band. Participating members of the         

                          G.T.C. should take part under their own callsign and not under any special callsign

QSO Points: QSOs with G.T.C. members         : 10 points

                       QSOs with non-G.T.C. members : 1 point

Multipliers: Each QSO with a G.T.C. member per band counts for one (1) multiplier. For instance, if you work

                      the same G.T.C. member in three (3) different bands, then this counts for three (3) multipliers

Total Score: The total score is calculated by the sum of QSO points (as described above) multiplied by the

                       multiplier total

Log submission: Electronic logs of your participation should be e-mailed at latest by 30 October 2011 to  

                               the European Communications Manager of G.T.C. , Stathis Maliakis - SV5DKL to the

                               following e-mail address: sv5dkl@rho.forthnet.gr

                               At the field of your e-mail you must write the callsign used as well as the

                               category of participation (Α ή Β). For instance, SV5DKL - Category A

                               Valid logs will be considered those that will have been received up to the above mentioned

                               date and that will be fully completed (the logs should contain at least the following data for

                               each QSO: Date, UTC, Callsign, Band, Mode, RST sent, Serial No. sent, RST received,

                               Serial No. received)

                               There is no special software developed yet for logging GTC CW Cup QSO data, so logs of the

                               following formats will be accepted:

                               ADIF, Cabrillo , .csv , .xls , .txt , .dat (dBase) , .wl (Writelog for Windows).

                               Also, hand-written logs sent by mail with postal signature up to 30 October 2011 will be

                               accepted, as long as they, too, contain at least the required data mentioned above for each

                               QSO  

                               All hand-written logs should be mailed to the following address:

                               Efstathios Maliakis, SV5DKL, 2, G. Georgiadi str., GR-85100, Analipsi, Rhodes, Greece.

                               All submitted logs must clearly mention the details of the participating station

                               (Callsign, Name/Surname of the station's licensee and postal address) as well as the

                               following sentence:

                               ΄΄I hereby state responsibly that my participation to the 1^st G.T.C. CW Cup is fully complied

                               with the rules and conditions set by the G.T.C. CW Cup committee and with the

                               permissions and restrictions defined for my station's radio amateur license. Furthermore,

                               I will wholeheartedly accept the results and decisions of the 1st G.T.C. CW Cup Committee"

Results:                The official results of the 1^st G.T.C. CW Cup will be published during the Greek Hamfest 2012

                               which will be possibly held in the first weekend of June 2012

                               The results and decisions of the G.T.C. CW Cup Committee are final and no objections will be

                               considered

Awards:                Top scorer of category Α. SOAB (regardless if he is a G.T.C. member or not) will be awarded

                               with a 30 cm. height cup with a commemorative plaque

                               Top scorer of category Β. SOAB/QRP (regardless if he is a G.T.C. member or not) will be

                               awarded with a 18 cm. height cup with a commemorative plaque

                               All stations that will submit their logs will receive a commemorative lapel pin for their

SX0A Special Callsign for Special Olympics

 "SX0A" Special Callsign, for Special Olympics

On 2004, seven years ago, 125 GReek radio amateurs, participated in a unique Special Call activity, for the Olympic Games ATHENS 2004. During this historical operation we have managed 146,731 QSOs on SSB, CW, RTY, PSK31 and SSTV mode in 10 bands. Also 202 DXCC countries from all 40 zones took the message of friendship and the Olympic spirit from our operators via GReek Bureau.

 

RUNNING SCHEDULE:

 For first time ever, Radio Amateurs with SV0 prefix,  ie hams who visit GReece will participate in a Special Event Station Activity. 
The Special Call is SX0A, and this is the missing Callsign from our previous activity "OLYMPIC GAMES ATHENS 2004".
The project will be supported by few SV operators to "fill the blanks" of time, equipment and also bureaucracy.
  We will be OTA during the Games from Opening to  Closing Ceremony, ie from 25th of June to 4th of July 2011 in the following QRGs:

  Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to more than 3.1 million athletes in 175 countries. Every day, somewhere around the world, Special Olympics athletes are training and competing. Alternating between summer and winter, the Special Olympics World Games are held every two years. Often the Games are the largest sporting event to take place in the World that year. There are also local, national and regional competitions in over 175 countries worldwide.
History
The first International Special Olympics Summer Games were held at Soldier Field in Chicago in 1968. Anne McGlone Burke, a physical education teacher with the Chicago Park District, began with the idea for a one-time Olympic-style athletic competition for people with special needs. Burke then approached Eunice Kennedy Shriver, head of the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation, to fund the event. Shriver encouraged Burke to expand on the idea and the JPK Foundation provided a grant of $25,000. More than 1,000 athletes from across the United States and Canada participated. At the Games, Shriver announced the formation of Special Olympics. Shriver’s sister, Rosemary Kennedy, underwent a lobotomy in an effort to alter her personality. The brain damage inflicted by the operation caused a severe permanent intellectual disability. This disability is often credited as Shriver's inspiration to form the Special Olympics.
In June 1962, Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a day camp, known as Camp Shriver, for children with intellectual disabilities at her home in Potomac, Maryland.^[1] Using Camp Shriver as an example, Shriver promoted the concept of involvement in physical activity and competition opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Camp Shriver became an annual event, and the Kennedy Foundation (of which Shriver was Executive Vice President) gave grants to universities, recreation departments and community centers to hold similar camps.
In 1971, The U.S. Olympic Committee gave the Special Olympics official approval to use the name “Olympics”.^[1]
The first International Special Olympics Winter Games were held in February 1977 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA.^[1]
In 1988, the Special Olympics was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).^[1]
In 1997, Healthy Athletes became an official Special Olympics initiative, offering health information and screenings to Special Olympics athletes worldwide.^[1].^[2]
In 2003 the first Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held outside of the United States took place in Dublin Ireland. Approximately 7000 athletes from 150 countries competed over 18 disciplines. The Dublin games were also the first to have their own opening and closing ceremonies broadcast live, performed by President of Ireland Mary McAleese. Most significantly the 2003 Games dramatically changed the perceptions and attitudes of society regarding the abilities and limitations of people with intellectual disabilities. The Opening Ceremony of the 2003 Games has been described by President of Ireland Mary McAleese as "a time when Ireland was at its superb best".^[3]
On October 30, 2004, President George W. Bush signed into law the "Special Olympics Sport and Empowerment Act," Public Law 108-406. The bill authorized funding for its Healthy Athletes, Education, and Worldwide Expansion programs.^[4] Co-sponsored by Representatives Roy Blunt (R-MO), and Steny Hoyer (D-MD), and Senators Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Harry Reid (D-NV), the bills were passed by unanimous consent in both chambers.

Othonoi (Greek: Οθωνοί, Italian: Fanò) is an island and a former community of the Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Corfu, of which it is a municipal unit. It is located northwest of Corfu. Population 663 (2001). In the 19th century the island used to be the capital of the Diapontia Islands Municipality, which consisted of the islands of Fano, Marlera and Mathrachi. Most of the island's inhabitants can trace their origins to Paxoi Island as people from Paxoi were settled in Fano beginning in the 1570’s by Venice.

Othoni is the westernmost settlement and island in Greece. The main yacht port of the island, Ammos, offers good protection only from N winds. Anchor off either inside or outside the quay. Fuel, water, provisions, ATM, tavernas, bars, medical center and post office.

During the last years the island is being slowly discovered by tourists for its crystal clear blue waters, sandy beaches and exotic caves. On the western part of the island, one can visit the cave of Kalypso , near the popular Aspros Ammos (white sands) beach is traditionally believed to have been the place where Calypso kept Ulysses captive. Another attraction on the E of the island, is the historic lighthouse built in 1872 ( N 39° 51' 48" E 19° 26' 06"). The island has four beautiful churches of Byzantine architecture.
